Major Public Still Unaware of Natural Resveratrol
Health studies show that resveratrol, which is an antioxidant found naturally in grapes, mulberries and peanuts has positive effects on health. In scientific tests, natural resveratrol had positive benefits for anti-aging, diabetes, heart-health, obesity and some cancers.
When a scientific research proves that something is good for health, normal procedure would be getting its own big market with tons of articles, news, and ads, as well as incredible sales figures. But for resveratrol, an antioxidant that has various health benefits, it did not happen.
Recent statistics show that global awareness of resveratrol is still quite low, therefore the market has not developed yet. The existing market generally consists of other sectors, rather than health products for personal use. According to Datamonitor’s Product Launch Analytics, only 93 new product launched between January 1, 2002, and September 2, 2009, and though resveratrol supplement containing products had its peak with 24 new products in 2007, it has been going down since then. Another surprising fact is, some 84 percent of those products are non-food products, another proof of public unawareness.
The only food categories resveratrol has been used as an ingredient are chocolate and nuts & seeds.
However, while resveratrol is still not known to many, this situation increases the potential value of the market.
